Did you know?

It’s common knowledge that expectant women are advised to abstain from smoking while pregnant as the toxins found in cigarette smoke have been proved to be harmful to unborn babies. But did you know that the toxins found in cigarettes are not the only chemicals that cross the placenta from mother to baby? A recent study of 10 babies (in uteri) in the US found they had over 287 synthetic chemicals present in their blood, including some that were banned over 30 years ago.......

Why risk exposing your baby to the potentially dangerous chemicals that many commercial cleaning products contain?

Nature Direct products are derived from 100% natural ingredients including corn, tree sap, processed coconut extract, sugar cane and de-ionized water.

In Australia, manufacturers of chemical cleaning products are not legally required to disclose the ingredients, even when they may contain potentially harmful components.

They are required to provide warning labels, however, and this is where you’ll often find words such as poison, toxic, corrosive and phrases such as caution or keep out of the reach of children.

Next time you’re in the cleaning products aisle at the supermarket aisle, why not take a moment to see if you can decipher a few of the labels? It’s confronting information.

At Nature Direct, we understand that in the course of your daily life you don’t have the time to try to understand the myriad of labelling laws in Australia, so we’ve done the research for you. You can find out more information regarding labelling laws in Australia by visiting Therapeutic Goods Administrative website.

Long term exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like those found in most cleaning products and deodorisers may be a significant factor in the increase of asthma and other respiratory problems. It may also be a trigger for people leaping from one allergy to another, a tendency known as the ‘atopic march’.

The atopic march refers to the natural history of atopic diseases which include eczema (or atopic dermatitis), food allergies, allergic rhinitis (or hay fever), and asthma. There is a typical progression when you look at the prevalence of these diseases over time in a large population and in genetically predisposed infants, eczema is the usually the first manifestation of allergic diseases.

Click here to learn more about how VOCs may be a contributing factor to the rise in allergies in Australia by visiting the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and Pamela Martin’s finding

All Nature Direct products are VOC free.

Toxic chemicals in the home can have catastrophic results. Accidental ingestion and inhalation of cleaning products by children and our elderly are a major cause of hospital admissions.

And those convenient hand sanitisers that everyone is carrying around in their handbags these days? It turns out that they might not be the panacea they’re being touted as.

In 2010, the Victorian Poisons Information Centre reported that topical hand sanitisers were listed as the third most common cause of accidental ingestion.

Click here to read the report of the report of the VPIC.

Fortunately, Nature Direct has a safe and effective alternative to chemical based hand sanitisers in our EnviroMist natural disinfectant.
