Birth Announcements of Brilliance

You are pregnant and the thought of having your baby fills you with excitement (and a touch of anxiety). Your due date is fast approaching and already you enjoy talking to perfect strangers about your pregnancy and the growing life within you; you can only imagine how much you’ll be shouting his or her arrival from the rooftops when that special day comes. The perfect way to share the arrival of your little bundle with family and friends is by sending out birth announcements. The vast selection of announcement options can feel overwhelming. But if you narrow down your options before baby comes, it becomes easier to get the announcements out. If the hard part is done already (other than giving birth of course), the task is less likely to end up on your perpetual to-do list.

Deciding on a design or theme can seem daunting, as there are so many choices out there. While blue announcements are popular for boys, and pink for girls, don’t feel like you must make use of one of those colors. Go with whatever you like and find something that flaunts your personality a bit. Knowing the sex of the baby definitely makes it easier to narrow down options. But there are plenty of gender neutral options if you don’t know but would like to have everything decided and finalized before your little one’s arrival. Don’t be afraid to choose something outside the norm. A nice pop of color can do wonders to an announcement, especially if the design is mostly grayscale.

Many birth announcements have a picture of the baby included on them. This allows for out of town relatives and friends to see the new wee one and fawn over him or her. Many retailers have announcement designs that have an open spot ready for baby’s picture, so it’s as easy as uploading your picture to their website or bringing it into a store. If your announcement choice doesn’t include a space for a picture, be sure to have enough wallet-sized copies printed as soon as possible to send along with the announcements. Choosing a picture might not be as easy as some of the other tasks associated with getting these sent out. After all, this is a baby we’re talking about. And what picture of a baby isn’t cute? But you’ve got to narrow it down and choose a favorite to add.

Once you have decided on a design and a picture, it’s time to choose the text. The obvious information to include on announcements includes baby’s name, weight, length/height, and date of birth. But the other text, that is completely optional, can be as unique as your precious little one. You can include famous sayings, fun rhymes, or poems. Or you can keep the announcement very simple with only the important info.

There are many retailers that offer birth announcements, but not all are created equal. Do your research before ordering from a company. Get some recommendations from friends who have recently sent out announcements. Consider ordering from a company that can send you the envelopes early, that way you can address them ahead of time. The last thing you’ll want to do when you’re completely sleep-deprived and recovering from giving birth is to sit down and write addresses on a bunch of envelopes; what a hassle. Birth announcements should be sent out as soon after the baby’s birth as possible. So it is beneficial to get as much as possible done beforehand. But when you are able send them out is not even remotely as important as the news you are sharing.
