Male Fertility - The other half of the equation

Quite often all the emphasis is placed on the female when issues of fertility arise, however it’s just as important for men to be in tip top health before and during the time of conception.

While 55% of fertility problems come from the female, 35% are to do with the male reproductive system (leaving 10% due to unknown causes). Men can often think its implied there is something wrong with them if they are taking measures to assist with conception but this is definitely not the case, they might simply want to do whatever they can to ensure their children have the best start in life.

Here’s a look at some of the most important nutrients for optimal male health;

Vitamin A is important for sperm production and may be of assistance if low sperm count is present

Vitamin B2 is important for sperm health, making it an important nutrient for fertility

 Vitamin C helps protect sperm from free radical damage

Vitamin E helps male reproductive health by increasing the number of sperm cells and improves their motility and improves circulation and blood flow to the genitals

Selenium is a very important antioxidant for the body in general but has a particular role in male fertility because it protects sperm from damage caused by free radicals

Zinc is the ‘male mineral’ and is vital for all aspects of male fertility. Some examples of zincs functions are the development of sex organs at puberty, the formation of sperm and seminal fluid and general health of the testes and prostate. It is also vital for testosterone production which is important for sex drive

So if your man is reluctant to take a supplement to assist conception (as many seem to be), he doesn’t have to take one specifically for this purpose;  A  general Men’s Multivitamin will do the trick and provide many other benefits at the same time, like increase energy, assist with stress reduction and boost the immune system.
