Dandelion Root

  • Dandelion root is best decocted to allow the boiling process to break down the woody parts of the plant and extract the beneficial constituents. Dandelion root stimulates liver function, promotes bile production and increases bowel regularity.

 

Dandelion leaf

  • Dandelion leaf is known as a diuretic which means it increases urine output, as nature often provides just the thing we need, dandelion leaf is high in potassium to ensure this important mineral is not depleted by excess urine output.

 

Milk Thistle

  • Milk Thistle, also known as St Mary’s Thistle or by its Latin binomial Silybum marianum, is the best herb for liver function, having protective, restorative and stimulating properties. Milk Thistle is even beneficial for increasing repair and function in disorders such as cirrhosis and other forms of liver degeneration. The protective action makes this a useful to take before a big night out, helping to minimise the damage to the liver and that dreaded hangover the next day (not to condone this type of behaviour!!). Milk Thistle is available in many forms from a health food store or your naturopath

 

Calendula calendula

  • Calendula officinalis is a flower with a cleansing action specific to the lymphatic system. This herb has many actions including anti-inflammatory, wound healing and antiseptic so is commonly found in loose leaf tea form in combinations for skin conditions such as acne and eczema.

 

Nettle

  • Nettle leaf is one of the most commonly used herbs for cleansing, having an action on the kidneys, it increases elimination of waste products through urine output and is high in potassium. An excellent herb for many skin conditions and your cleansing tea

 

Juniper Berries

  • Juniper is another herb that increases urinary output and has an antiseptic action on the urinary tract so is commonly used for cystitis (UTI). 

 

Burdock Root

  • Burdock has a strong cleansing action and is usually used on combination with other herbs that can assist the removal of waste products from the body such as dandelion. Beneficial for skin conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis especially where toxicity is a factor
