11 Things that have been confirmed during my two weeks on crutches

  1. That many of us take our health and able body for granted, I know I did
  2. That I’ve been embarking on stressful (to say the least) supermarket & green grocer trips with two kids for the last two years for no reason. When you say “I should do that” then simply do it, don’t keep struggling if there is a better option
  3. That daytime TV thinks that we at home are all overweight, in debt (probably from wasting money on useless weight loss scams) and in need of a funeral plan – a sad state our nation must be in if this is the demographic
  4. The health care system is seriously floored and I’m glad I’m a Naturopath, but I really feel that I’m not making enough of a positive impact on people’s health, so that must change
  5. That when you can’t clean things you really notice how dirty they are
  6. That I have a serious laptop addiction and probably shouldn’t get a smart phone!
  7. That my friends are amazing, they’ve definitely been there for me and I’m so grateful, even conspiring behind my back about who’s coming to look after us & when, bringing food and doing fruit & veg shopping, simply amazing, we’re so blessed
  8. That an independent person has a difficult time not being able to do anything for themselves and struggles when having to ask for the most simple things like a drink of water.  But it didn’t take long to settle into being waited on by my hot man-slave!!
  9. That my husband (above-mentioned hot man-slave) is amazing! And better at running the house than me, granted he is not trying to run a business from home & the kids didn’t go to their weekly activities but I can take a lot from his methods and organisational skills and the house has never been so clean or tidy. He was thrown in the deep end and literally within seconds became the person who had to do absolutely everything for our family. One person made a comment along the lines of “poor him’’ (in a much nicer way but that was the general message) but it is not an easy transition for any person having to completely change their roles the way he has and he really came through for us. Many dads would freak out and hire a nanny, a maid, a chef and a personal shopper, but he became all of those overnight. I think he’s pleased to be back at work!!
  10. That my kids are amazing! My 4 year old has blossomed into a big boy! It’s been really incredible being able to spend so much more time with him and seeing him become so much more mature over the last few weeks, he understands that Mum is hurt and that he needs to help out and loves it. My 2 year old has blossomed into a 2 year old!! She’s found her assertive voice and will exercise her right to protest at any given chance.  They are both loving caring, empathetic little people who are more independent and capable than I previously gave them credit for and I’m so proud of them. They’ll also be doing the washing from now on!
  11. That I’m extremely pleased to be able to get around without crutches, they suck! Yes I know not the best articulation of thought but let’s be honest, they just do suck! I resorted to hopping once my foot could handle the bouncing motion because crutches are so horrible to use. The rest of my body is tired. I have said for the last two weeks “I just want to be able to put weight on my foot so I can walk a bit” and now I can, I’ve turned a corner! I have to see the specialist with my test results to find out if I need further investigation (MRI) and surgery (lets hope not or we’ll be going through all this again), but for now I’m pleased to be able to manage an uncoordinated hobble to get from A to B.

Have a fantastic day!
