Put Yourself Out There - 5 Ways to Meet Other Mums

friends coffee

Having a network of supportive, like-minded people around you is essential for any aspect of life, whether it be in business or your personal life. But before has it been so important as it is for your journey through parenthood. If you are new to an area or don't have a lot of family or friends close by, take a look at some of the ways you might be able to broaden yours and your childrens' circle of friends.

Join a Play Group or Mums Group

Playgroup Australia or Natural Parenting Melbourne formally run playgroups. For first time mums Your Maternal & Child Health Nurse will organise a Mums Group with other locals so you can meet Mums with babies or a similar age to yours. Also check out the Events & Activities organised here at Jellyfish Connection.

Join a sports team

If you loved netball, basketball, baseball, tennis or hockey when you were younger, chances are you will love it every bit as much, if not more now! Exercise is essential for both physical and mental health and wellbeing and doing it with a team of people will help you make connections with the outside world while you get the blood pumping. Most associations that run daytime competitions have a crèche so you don’t have to worry about who’ll have bub.

If you are a brand new mum or breastfeeding, please read the relevant articles to ensure you take the right precautions.

Go to the local Park or Playground

Many Mums are at home by themselves and love to get out and have a chat, many relationships are formed by sparking up a conversation with a complete stranger. Really, you have nothing to lose by doing this. Start by asking how old their children are, their names, where'd you get that gorgeous hat etc etc. There's a list of some fantastic places to visit in Parks, Playgrounds & Reserves, but there's probably one within walking distance from your place.

Forum Chats

Just about every parenting website has a forum where you can chat with other Mums (yes, we even have one right here!). Many have sections where you can speak to people in the same area and may even have the opportunity to meet up with them personally. Some people love the anonymity of a forum and are more than happy to form bonds with strangers who can empathise and share their experiences.

Jellyfish Connection Play Dates are being organised RIGHT NOW. So stay tuned for details to be posted on the home page and in the Calendar
