Motherhood.....who knew....who really knows....?

mothers_day

What can come with motherhood that no one tells you is self reflection, whether you are ready for it or not, it’s like Motherguilt!, but how can you work through it? With every decision you make, you have deliberated with yourself Is this the right thing to do? Does this make me a bad mother? I feel guilty, I don’t want to have to make this decision?

There is a lot of literature out there on what to do and what not to do from experts, professionals, associations, as well as friends who are parents, telling you what worked for them and what didn’t.  And even before becoming a mother did you have the friend that said ‘enjoy this moment while you still have it, once you have the baby you no longer have a life’.  When do you stop reading information and listening to everything you are told before actually relying on your intuition, your gut and maternal instinct?

There is the daily, hourly, minute by minute demands of mothering, as well as re-establishing your identity - who you were, who you have become – are you happy with your whole self (physically, emotionally, socially)?  Mothering can bring up a lot of unresolved issues, ones that previously didn’t appear to be important but now, as a parent, is there a want or desire to change or to understand why you feel the way you do?

Mothers Day is approaching - a day to be celebrated, recognised and thanked for all that you have done and do. When was the last time you acknowledged and recognised yourself for all that you do. It is time to start acknowledging the feelings and work through them – and learn to thank yourself and believe it.

Advocate Self Care and lose the Motherguilt.  Happy Mothers Day to you for every day of the Year!

Our demand for summer fruits all year round and the desire to eat what we want - when we want, means we find fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables next to those that have been in storage for prolonged periods, sometimes years
